D. M. Terblanche is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist born in Pretoria, South Africa. They specialise in narrative and portrait photography, often drawing from literary, sociological and metaphysical influences.
A1 is a personal negotiation with long-term abuse. Combining vernacular photography, 35mm film and mixed media, Terblanche takes inspiration from works such as ‘Evidence’ by Larry Sultan and Mike Mandel, as well as ‘Ray’s a Laugh’ by Richard Billingham and ‘Nadir’ by Jo Ratcliffe
