Walnut of Knowledge is an experimental documentary exploring the experiences of Niyaz and her young son Jonah in relation to Niyaz’s home country and the nuances of living and belonging to two cultures and histories. Based in a family garden outside of Tehran, they spend time with Jonah: watching his quest finding treasures beneath an old Walnut tree. The 80 year old walnut tree has been witness to many events from war to revolution and generations coming and going – shown through Super 8 archive footage from Niyaz’s family.
