Crystal Bennes is an interdisciplinary artist working across photography, tapestry, soap sculpture, performance lectures and prints. Through her work, Bennes critically and poetically explores knowledge systems and power structures, questioning their influence and impact on society.

We Eat The Earth, published by The Eriskay Connection, is a photobook that combines archival images, fieldwork photographs and texts to explore how agriculture's demand for nutrients reshapes the earth and impacts both political and physical environments. The project examines the historical and ongoing ties between food production, white supremacy, empire and the environmental crises driven by extractive capitalism. Through a mapping of fertiliser's global flower – tracing materials from Western Sahara to Sweden or from Germany to the Netherlands – this book highlights the devastating environmental, political and socio-economic consequences of fertiliser production and its far-reaching impact on the planet.
