Alexandra Dautel is a Paris-based visual artist and photographer whose work spans fashion and investigative documentary photography. She combines photographs, archives, texts and testimonials in her multi-layered practice, driven by a quest for truth and justice.

Your Eyes Will Burn in Hell is an investigative documentary project exploring New York's Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and the individuals who have left it. Focusing on both public and private spheres, the Samar community in New York State enforces strict rules, and leaving it comes with significant repercussions. Through months of interviews, Dautel captures the voices of those who left – whether due to personal beliefs, a curiosity for the secular world, or experiences of psychological or sexual abuse – highlighting the authoritarian nature of the community. This project seeks to critique a system that raises concerns about individual freedoms, education and justice within American society today.
